Meet The Team

Every day, Dr. John Sullivan and his team dedicate themselves to making a difference in their community and in the lives or their patients. In private practice since graduating from dental school in 1984, Dr. Sullivan concentrates on the technical art of cosmetic and restorative dentistry. A third-generation Tularean, Dr. Sullivan built Smiles by Sullivan with the dream of providing the area with high-tech, state of the art cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

Our practice was originally built in 1984 on Merritt Avenue, and we moved to our present site at 925 North Blackstone Street in Tulare in 1994. Our office has won national awards for it's design, most notably Office of the Month by Dental Economics Magazine and was featured in the book "Dental Office Designs" published by PennWell Books.

"As a life-long resident of Tulare, it was only natural that I would return to my hometown. After graduation from Tulare Western High School, I attended College of the Sequoias and Fresno State University before attending the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. After graduating in 1984, I came home to raise my family in the area I grew up in. "

Since 1998 he has been a member of the American Academy Cosmetic Dentistry, the world’s leading organization dedicated to cosmetic dentistry, and has served five years as a member of it’s governing body, the Board of Directors. He is currently the Vice President of the AACD, and will move through the leadership of the Academy. He is also a longtime member of the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Laser Dentistry, and continually provides his team with the latest in continuing education. In 2006, he was recognized with Accredited Status in the AACD, making him one of less than 300 dentists in the world who have achieved this level of cosmetic training

"My wife, Crystal, has lived most of her life in Tulare and is a practicing attorney in Visalia. My daughter, Mallory, graduated from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania where she played intercollegiate waterpolo, and now works on the East Coast in Sports Marketing.”

Dr. Martin’s story is a similar one in that she, too, is a native to the area, having grown up on a farm near Pixley. At age 14, she attended Monache High School in Porterville, California where she would meet her future husband, Eric Stadtherr. Upon graduation from high school, Dr. Martin briefly studied at College of the Sequoias and then continued on to St. Mary’s College of California. At St. Mary’s, she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and in doing so, discovered her interest in dentistry. So, to obtain her DDS Degree, Dr. Martin attended New York University College of Dentistry. It is there that she learned the latest techniques in the art and science of dentistry. Upon completion of her schooling, Dr. Martin returned to establish residence in Tulare with her husband who is now a Physical Therapist at Kaweah Delta Hospital. The two are thrilled to be once again near friends and family and have begun a family of their own.

My staff is what I am most proud of. We have assembled a highly trained team of Dental Hygienists, Clinical Assistants, and Treatment Coordinators that are here to help you get the care that you deserve. Every one of my staff is here to help you make your visit something extraordinary. At the same time, we have fun each day with our patients and working with each other."

As a group, we believe in the power of advanced education. As the field of dentistry is rapidly changing, we consistently train ourselves with continuing education courses  throughout the world with leaders in the cosmetic field. We are always evolving with the rapid pace of technology, while realizing that true cosmetic dentistry is an art that changes our patients' lives and not just a procedure. As a result, we attend over 200 hours of courses annually, over eight times the required amount.

It was extremely important for me to convey the type of care we provide through our office design. I truly wanted to have our design reflect the quality and comfort we provide. Through our office's unique styling, you not only feel our attention to detail, but you'll appreciate our commitment to your comfort and privacy.
